English Language Requirements
International students applying to study will be required to show evidence of sufficient command of the English language to enable them to follow their course and apply for a visa.
Students who have studied in non-majority, English-speaking countries (as defined on the UKBA’s website) are required to provide evidence that they have achieved specified levels of competence in English through undertaking an approved Secure English Language test (SELT) that is assessed against the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Language Learning.
The most common form of test used by the University is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) but others can be acceptable and examples are given on the UKBA’s website.
It should be noted here that the University’s language requirements for direct entry to its degree courses are of a higher standard than those required by the UKBA for the issue of a UK study visa. Where applicants exceed the UKBA’s minimum language requirements but do not achieve the University’s required standards, ‘pre-sessional’ language courses can be considered.
MBA Entry criteria
MBA English language requirements
For direct entry to a Postgraduate Taught degree course, applicants from non-majority English-speaking countries (as defined by the UKBA) must show evidence of English language proficiency at or exceeding an average IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent in any other approved test), with no score less than 5.5 in any components of the test.
